Writing the book on lean organizations
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 1/1/2006
While lean manufacturing is well established, lean warehousing is only in the early stages of development. And now comes a new publication called Lean Enterprise Leader focused on how to create an organization of empowered teams all pulling in the same direction.
The book has two goals, according to author Stephen Hawley Martin. The first is to eliminate the decision-making bureaucracies that serve as a barrier to lean implementation. The second is to help floor leaders transition from "command and control" managers into coaches who effectively instruct their workforce in introducing and fostering lean productivity.
Intended for supply chain professionals looking to migrate to a lean philosophy, Lean Enterprise Leadercan be purchased on the book's Web site, www.LeanTransformation.com.
