Konstant introduces bolted structural rack

Though they've both been owned by the same parent company for several years, Konstant Products and Pacific Westeel have operated separately until now. At a press conference this week, the merger of the two companies was announced along with the release of a bolted structural racking system.
The merged company is named Konstant (Booth 2219). The merger combines Konstant's strength in structural pallet racks with Pacific Westeel's experience with large projects and its diverse line of roll-formed storage products, said Peter McCarthy, Konstant's CEO, who is also the president and CEO of parent The Econorack Group. But McCarthy said the main emphasis for Konstant at the show is its new K2 line, which he called the world's first bolted structural rack upright system. Most bolted rack systems use rolled-formed steel and generally aren't as strong and as well suited to abusive environments as structural steel, he said. K2's development was driven by customers who challenged Tony Konstant, founder of Konstant Products and a rack system inventor, to develop a bolted structural rack, McCarthy said. The resulting K2 product is high strength, he said, and because it's bolted rather than welded, it can be broken into segments for shipping—taking up less volume and costing about one third less in freight. Bolted sections also allow easier repair via section replacement and because there is no welding, manufacturing lead time is cut by roughly half, he added."Freight is a bigger and bigger issue every day," said McCarthy "The No. 1 reason [driving a bolted structural rack product] is to reduce freight."
