Computing on the go
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 8/1/2005
Increasingly a piece of necessary equipment in DCs and manufacturing centers, mobile tablet computers are getting more in tune with the needs of managers who need mobile access to real-time information.
As prominently seen on motorized carts whizzing around the DC floor or mounted onto lift trucks, tablet computers are becoming increasingly powerful, and rugged. Other units are slung around the shoulder that allow the operator or picker to work hands-free, then refer to the computer to enter data or receive instruction.
In an exclusive product unveiling with Modern, Motion Computing recently introduced its next-generation tablet computing solution that can be mounted on a lift truck or worn on the person.
Motion's recent offering is said to be as powerful as traditional desktop computers. It is also designed with an eye for ergonomics and how users interface with the tablets. In addition, the new tablets are lightweight, for ease of transport.
