New power behind hydrogen fuel cells for lift trucks
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 8/1/2005
Generating considerable excitement in the lift truck industry, hydrogen fuel cells may well be the energy of tomorrow.
Cellex Power, a Canadian fuel cell provider, has been awarded a grant of nearly $10 million to develop hydrogen fuel cell power units for use in industrial vehicles. The grant is provided by Technology Partnerships Canada (TPC).
The project involves the development and testing of a family of fuel cell products that will form the technology base for a complete product offering for lift trucks.
Chris Reid, Cellex's president and CEO comments, "Additional benefits will be realized when users of internal combustion engine (ICE) lift trucks begin adopting fuel cell based electric lift trucks, which produce zero harmful emissions and require no battery changing as they are simply refueled with hydrogen."
