"MH24.1: Safety Standard for Horizontal Carousel Material Handling and Associated Equipment," is the first standard ever covering this type of storage and staging equipment. The standard was developed by the Carousel and Vertical Lift Module working group of the Automated Storage/Retrieval Product Section of Material Handling Industry of America.

Approved by ANSI, the standard details design practices and performance testing criteria for manufacturers, purchasers and users of horizontal carousels. The purpose of the standard is to provide for safe operation and maintenance of carousel equipment by acting as a guide for carousel system design, construction, installation, operation and maintenance.
