By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 5/1/2006
The former chief engineer of America's best-selling car-the Toyota Camry-is now overseeing the design of Toyota's lift trucks. In his new job as managing director of Toyota Industries, Kosaku Yamada will overseeToyota's global lift truck research, development, design and manufacturing.
Yamada's career with Toyota spans three decades and includes many years as the chief engineer at Toyota Motor Corp., where he was responsible for the design and development process for the Camry, Lexus ES300 and Avalon. "I am always excited by a new challenge," says Yamada. "Although the logistics of the design process are different with lift trucks, the goal is the same-customer satisfaction." Toyota has ranked as the world's largest supplier of lift trucks since 2002, according to Modern.
