Toyota celebrates 250,000th lift truck
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 7/1/2006
Toyota produced its 250,000th lift truck last month at its plant in Columbus, Ind. Toyota executives on hand to celebrate the milestone presented the lift truck—a four-wheeled internal combustion cushion tire model—to Toyota dealer Al Rawson, who is chairman of Toyota's National Dealer Advisory Council.
Most of the Toyota lift trucks sold in the United States are manufactured at the Columbus facility. The first lift truck rolled of the line there in 1990. Since then, says the company, the plant size has tripled, its production has increased 10-fold and its workforce has grown six-fold to nearly 800 employees.
Last year, Toyota topped Modern's ranking of the world's lift truck suppliers. Look for this year's ranking in our next issue.
