Holjeron targets simplicity, introduces inkjet system
-- Modern Materials Handling, 1/10/2007
Simpler installation appealing to smaller resellers, integrators and end-users was the theme of new products introduced by Matthews and its electronics controls subsidiary Holjeron (Booth 4133).
Matthews demonstrated its new SX 16 inkjet system for printing two lines on cartons or other porous materials.
Michelle Spaulding, marketing communications manager for Holjeron, said the new system uses the same high-quality print head technology as the higher-end systems Matthews is known for, but is simpler to install because the controller, print head and ink system are integrated into one compact unit. "It can be pulled out of the box, plugged in and very quickly be set up and running," she said.
Also in keeping with the simplicity theme, Holjeron showcased two new controllers.
The new UBT controller, said marketing manager Pete Shumway, can handle belt transfer and merge functions normally governed by a programmable logic controller (PLC), but without the level of programming associated with a PLC.
Another new controller at the show—a sensorless low pressure accumulation (LPA) controller—saves on cost because it requires no photo-eye or other sensor to adjust to accumulation, instead reading changes in current via its connection to Holjeron’s motor-driven rollers.
"Our mantra [with these new controllers] is no PLCs anywhere," said Shumway. "We’re targeting integrators and users who want simplicity, with minimal or no programming required."
Matthews’ new SX 16 is a self-contained unit for carton marking that is easy to install, said Michelle Spaulding, marketing communications manager.
