Table-top air pillow system

The benchtop AirPouch Express 3 void-fill system produces air pillows at more than 50 feet per minute. It's fast enough for high-volume applications, yet cost-effective for packing operations that use as little as 200 cubic feet of packing material per week. Weighing 35 pounds with a footprint of 20 x 12 inches, it produces air pillows in continuous tear-away strips. Features include an all-electric design requiring no compressed air, the option to run the system in automatic or semi-automatic modes, and a variety of vacuum feed options to deliver bags to the packing line. Automated Packaging Systems, 330-342-2000, www.airpouch.com.

All-electric void-fill bag system

The Fill-Air 2000 system is an all-electric inflatable void fill packaging solution that increases packaging speed by creating 8-inch bags at a rate of 100 per minute and 4-inch bags at 200 per minute. Using proprietary film, it creates inflatable bags in six sizes and accommodates material roll widths of 8, 10 or 12 inches. A user-friendly control pad allows selection of the ideal bag size. Cushion sizes can be modified in mid-production without changing the film roll. An auto-replenishment sensor ensures inflated bags are readily available. The system can support multiple packaging stations or several packaging lines. Sealed Air Corporation, 800-648-9093, www.sealedair.com, www.fillair2000.com.

Foam dunnage is stiff

Offering a class A surface, Crosslink foam dunnage is stiff and heavy, making it a replacement for high density polyethylene (HDPE) dunnage. The foam is priced one-third less than HDPE and weighs 25 percent less. With a 15 pound per cubic foot density, the foam is currently available in 1 x 34 x 96 inch sheets. The sheets may be cut to form a variety of shapes. Larger sheet sizes will be offered later this year. Exemplary Foam, 866-495-3626, www.exemplaryfoam.com.

Thermoplastic urethane forms for automotive

Custom-formed thermoplastic urethane, available in a variety of durometers, is ideal when ductility, chemical resistance, cushioning, absorption of vibration and impact resistance are required. These applications include engine and transmission shipping rack dunnage, rack dunnage for sharp edge automotive body components, and as molded inserts in custom handling trays. The forms also protect high-value engine and transmission components from contamination and damage during transport. Creative Techniques, 800-473-0284, www.creativetechniques.com.

Dunnage cleaning, refurbishing services offered

Cleaning services for returnable metal and plastic dunnage units are ideal for a range of users from Tier 1 automotive suppliers to small machine shop operations. Decontamination can often be completed in a day or less using the supplier's just-in-time container management program. The cleaning facility encompasses 20,000 square feet of operations consisting of three automated wash lines, two manual wash lines, and one paint line. Refurbishing services are also offered, including painting, welding, heat treating, machining, drilling and coating. Tri-State Dunnage, 517-398-6690, www.dunnagepros.com.

Air bags secure loads in trailers, vessels

SuperFlow air bag system secures loads in trailers, railcars, vessels and ocean containers. The reusable, recyclable 48 x 48 inch air bags are made of kraft paper and inflate in 8 seconds with an inflator unit using compressed and ambient air. Once the desired inflation level has been achieved, the inflator reverses the air flow to prevent over-inflation. The bags include a large diameter valve with a locked open flapper design for quick inflation and deflation. Once filled, the bags sit between loads to prevent shifting and damage. ITW Shippers, 800-933-7731, www.itwshippers.com.

On-demand air cushion machine

For on-demand manufacturing of bubble-wrap type air cushioning, the Airplus machine produces 0.5 inch wave cells or 0.75 inch quilt cells at a speed of 30 feet per minute using ambient air. On-demand production frees valuable warehouse space. A 30-pound roll of 13-inch film produces a full 12-inch web perforated every 6 inches. This yields 95 cubic feet of quilt cushioning or 75 cubic feet of wave cushioning for wrapping, surface protection and void fill applications in a range of industries. Both products can run on the supplier's standard Excel machines with minor setting adjustments. Storopack, 800-827-7225, www.storopackinc.com.

Expandable void fillers secure shipments

Expandable to full pallet dimensions in container and truck shipments, void fillers stabilize a load by filling the space left by missing pallets. They also prevent single pallets from creeping toward sidewalls while in transit and can maintain proper axle weight distribution. Made of corrugated material with a cellular construction, Saddle-Pak lightweight void fillers store flat and expand to fill side spaces. Reusable and recyclable, fillers can be customized with a smaller or larger cell size. The void fillers can secure single pallet units in the center of any transportation vehicle or on double stacked loads. Litco International, 877-284-5043, www.litco.com.

Custom dunnagein array of materials

Custom designed, reusable dunnage is available in a range of materials including corrugated plastics, fabricated polyurethane, polyethylene, cross-linked polyethylene and polypropylene foams. Corrugated plastic containers with foam dunnage can be used for intra/inter-plant handling of component parts and sub-assemblies and are ideal for industrial manufacturing and materials handling applications. Foam dunnage interiors can be permanent or removable and provide critical product positioning and/or surface protection. Dunnage containers feature modular designs that optimize cubic density, allowing more parts to be stored per container. Containers and inserts are reusable, minimizing the need for disposable packaging. United Foam, a division of UFP Technologies, 800-372-3172, www.ufpt.com.
