Bundled solution improves production

Klippenstein, which manufactures and services custom packaging equipment, wanted a case sealing machine that would reduce labor and increase troubleshooting capabilities.

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 10/2/2007

Customizing can be expensive. That's why the Klippenstein Corporation, located in Fresno, Calif., is always looking for ways to keep costs down and productivity up. Klippenstein, which manufactures and services custom packaging equipment, wanted a case sealing machine that would reduce labor and increase troubleshooting capabilities.

The company went with a bundled solution that includes new motor starters, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and power supplies. The equipment integration streamlines the company's process and allows the flexibility to expand its machine design to better meet the customization requirements of its customers.

The motor starters provide the necessary tools for troubleshooting and assist in reducing labor time. The enhanced troubleshooting capabilities and system diagnostics have resulted in a 10% cost reduction for the company. The starters, as well as the PLCs, are compact, so they free up panel space, making it easier to customize the machinery. The power supply offers a range of input voltages, accommodating single- to three-phase service.

Flexibilty reduces downtime

"The PLCs provide flexibility in programming so that upgrades and changes can be easily made,” says company president Kenneth Klippenstein. “The technical support provided for new products, especially to our end users, is unsurpassed and allows for changes to happen quickly with as little downtime as possible. Product availability is never an issue and allows for immediate turnaround when necessary. And when we're developing a new concept or application, technicians assist with addressing complex programming so we can approach custom projects with cutting edge technology."
