Toyota lends a hand
When wildfires swept Southern California this fall, Toyota Material Handling USA (TMHU) donated $25,000 and 13 lift trucks to the American Red Cross for use in the relief efforts. The company also matched employee donations to the Red Cross. TMHU is headquartered in Irvine, Calif., within 25 miles of the devastating Santiago Fire.
MHIA offers e-lessons in order picking
Want to learn about order picking? The Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) recently posted on its Web site a series of “e-lessons” that detail the order-picking process.
Professor Michael Kay of North Carolina State University authored the lessons. The interactive tutorials allow you to navigate at your own pace, with the option of drilling deeper for more specific information. Quizzes test what you've learned.
These four e-lessons are available:
Each lesson takes less than 30 minutes to complete.
Reducing fear of RFID
Many consumers see RFID tags as tools used by Big Government and Big Business to spy on their personal habits. AIM Global—a trade association for auto-ID companies—is trying hard to change that perception.
The group has launched “an aggressive and proactive RFID outreach initiative” to educate the public about the convenience, safety and security RFID brings to consumers' daily lives.
The New York-based marketing firm hired to help spread the message plans to target newspapers, magazines and television stations at the national, regional and local levels.
