Revenues for U.S.-based third-party logistics providers (3PLs) passed the $100 billion mark in 2007 for the third consecutive year, according to a report by Armstrong & Associates (www.3plogistics.com).
U.S. 3PL revenues were $122 billion, up 7.4% from the $113.6 billion the industry earned in 2006. That growth, notes the report, is more than three times the growth in U.S. gross domestic product.
The fastest growing segment of the 3PL market is international transportation management, which grew 9.5%. The value-added warehousing and distribution segment of the market grew 7.7%.
Armstrong predicts U.S. 3PL revenues will exceed $150 billion by 2010.
