Lower turnover, higher wages for warehouse workers

Despite the Slow economy, hourly warehouse workers are leaving their jobs at lower rates than most businesses and taking home higher pay, according to two surveys conducted by the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC).

Of the respondents to the hiring survey, 61% reported an hourly employee turnover rate of 15% or less. Companies usually sustain a turnover rate of 35% or more, according to the report.

From 2006 to 2008, warehouse workers saw the biggest leap in pay, from $11 an hour to $11.78 an hour, followed by order filler/picker ($11.39 to $12) and customer service representative ($12.98 to $13.52), according to WERC's biannual salary survey.
