Supply chain: Creating common knowledge

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 1/1/2009

Materials handling and supply chain professionals have their own language – but sometimes what means one thing to the automotive industry means another to the chemicals field. Enter the “APICS Operations Management Body of Knowledge.”

The publication establishes a structure for the field of operations management by defining its scope and outlining the areas of knowledge helpful in the field. It covers production, inventory, supply chain, materials management, purchasing and logistics.

The framework also discusses warehouse management, including emerging technologies. It includes specialized warehouse processes that are often overlooked.

The guide is available from APICS. Visit the APICS Bookstore at www.APICS.org.
