President Bush says no to OSHA ergonomic standard
Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 4/1/2001
After 12 years in the making and two months on the books, the Ergonomic Standard proposed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been revoked. President Bush, late last month, signed into law S.J. Res. 6, which repeals the final standard. In a statement, President Bush said, "The safety and health of our Nation's workforce is a priority for my administration. Together we will pursue a comprehensive approach to ergonomics that addresses the concerns surrounding the ergonomics rule repealed today."
Secretary of Labor, Elaine L. Chao, said in a statement that she will pursue a comprehensive approach to ergonomics, which includes new rulemaking that addresses the concerns levied against the current standard.
