Toyoda forms independent U.S. forklift firm
Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 4/1/2001
Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A. is the name for a new company formed from Toyota Industrial Equipment (TIE) Torrance, Calif. The change results from the acquisition of TIE, previously a division of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A, by Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd. (TAL), Kariya, Japan.
TAL's creation of the new company will allow the U.S. forklift manufacturer to strengthen its core business of supplying materials handling products and services to a wide variety of industries in the U.S. The acquisition by Toyoda is part of a long-term plan and relates to TAL's acquisition last year of BT Industries, the Sweden-based manufacturer, which includes the Raymond and BT Prime-Mover lift truck brands.
