Real-time locator systems on the move
Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 5/1/2001
Real-time locator systems that use radio frequency identification to track the location and movement of inventory and assets continue to build momentum in industrial applications that require supply chain visibility. One of the leaders, Santa Clara, Calif.-based WhereNet, has just announced a series of new products that maximize a user's ability to locate, track, and manage supply chain resources.
Also new is a visibility software suite (VSS) that supports tighter integration with critical supply chain, warehouse management, and enterprise applications and greater visibility of critical assets. WhereNet also announced a new suite of hardware, that when combined with VSS, will further streamline large and sophisticated supply chains, improving productivity and reducing inventory for Fortune 500 organizations.
"Our fifth issued patent (No. 6170748) on wireless magnetic communication ranks near the top of the list. Our next generation products will enable new applications that dramatically simplify managing the supply chain," says Tom Turner, senior vice president for WhereNet.
Additionally, Unisys Corporation has completed a reseller agreement making Unisys a worldwide reseller of WhereNet's real-time location technology. Unisys plans to leverage WhereNet's real-time locating and tracking technology as part of its ongoing logistics initiative with the United States Department of Defense (DOD).
