Who's watching your warehouse data?
Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 5/1/2001
For some time now, warehouse management systems (WMS) have been managing resources and activities within the four walls of the warehouse. But what's been managing all of the data collected about those activities and resources?
With that in mind, WMS supplier Manhattan Associates has created SmartInfo. Billed as a business intelligence tool for warehouses, the software manages both historical and real-time data to give managers better visibility of the facility. As a result, it allows managers to modify how the WMS is managing resources based on the actual conditions at the time.
Later this year, there are plans to release an alert notification capability that automatically informs managers when the data is outside pre-set parameters desired for running the warehouse. That way, managers have the data working for them instead of the other way around.
