Here are some new hoists announcements that have recently crossed our editors' desks.

Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 5/1/2001

Lightweight and portable

The Handy Lifter, a compact portable hoist, is available in wire rope and chain styles. Weighing only 25 lb, the unit is very portable, and easy to set up. The wire rope version has a load capacity of 125 lb and a lift speed of 2-46 ft/min. With a lift speed of 13-52 ft/min, the chain version can lift up to 225 lb. The unit measures 12 in. by 12 in. by 8 3/4 in., and can be operated by the infrared remote control either attached to the unit, or remotely. The remote can be operated up to 30 ft away from the unit.

Low maintenance, maximum flexibility

A power rotating hoist features a twin hook design with two drums on a common shaft that provides stable lifting of loads that are not equally balanced. Available in top running or under hung configurations, the design offers a fail-safe safety lug system and eliminates the need for costly below-hook devices. The hoist rotates a full 360 deg, and all movements are precise and smooth with optional built-in variable frequency controls. Available in capacities up to 20,000 lb, the hoist can be used with paper reels, foam buns, pipe, and other applications where load rotation is required.

Air chain hoists

The CAH line of air chain hoists is available in two frame sizes, with a capacity range of 1/4 - 3 ton. Small frame models are available in 1/4-, 1/2-, and 1-ton capacities with link or roller chain and pendant or pull cord control. The 1/4- and 1/2-ton models are lightweight and portable, weighing just 36 lb. Large frame models are available in 1-, 2-, and 3-ton capacities with link chain and pendant control standard. A 10-foot standard lift is offered for all models with longer lifts available. Small- and large-frame spark-resistant models are available with capacities of 3/8 - 2 ton.

Electric wire rope hoist

Electric wire rope hoists and trolleys are designed for heavy-duty wire rope applications. The RH hoist's single-axis or in-line design – with motor, gearbox, and drum sharing the same axis – results in a low-profile and low-headroom hoist. Modular body construction makes the series suitable for all mounting configurations; deck mounted, lug suspended, standard headroom trolley hoists, and ultra-low headroom trolley hoists.

Trolley hoist

The TR-DG built-up trolley hoist is available with capacities up to 500 ton. Features include auxiliary hoist units, caliper brake on drum flanges, power limit switches, and load limit switches and scales. Other features include centralized lubrication systems, flame harden drum grooved, and rope spooling bars.

Electric chain hoists lift up to 7 1/2 tons

An expanded line of Lodestar XL electric chain hoists is available for lifting applications from 2 to 7 1/2 tons. This line includes heavy-duty hoists with faster speeds, less reeving, and higher capacities than traditional chain hoists. New features include increased lifting speeds throughout the line, double reeved units with 3-5 ton lifting capacities, and a maximum lifting speed of 30 ft/min. Other features include heavy-duty, multiple disc braking system, forged ten-pocket oblique-lay liftwheel for smooth chain operation, constant chain speed, and reduced chain wear. The hoists also offer gearing operated in an oil bath for increased lifting life and quiet operation, standard overload protector, screw-type limit switches, and a thermally protected motor.

Close-headroom, more flexibility

Cross-mounted, close-headroom Speed-way hoists are well suited to lower-volume lifting with a maximum of 30 min. of operation per hour and a maximum of 300 starts an hour. Features include H-3 duty classification, and machine-cut, case-hardened, alloy-steel gears. The hoists also feature single- or two-speed motors, mechanical load brake, and motor thermostats. All comply with ASME HST-4M both mechanically and electrically.

Chain hoists

Featuring all steel construction with powder coat finish, the L-95 series chain hoists offer a compact design with low headroom. Built-in automatic overload protection prevents hoist damage from lifting loads that are too large. A variety of capacities are available, from 1/2 ton - 10 ton with a standard 10 ft lift. Custom length lifts are available upon request.

Material platform hoist

The lightweight MR-2010 material platform hoist can be easily transported from job site to job site. A pivoting feature allows the platform to be rotated 90 deg with a special swivel mechanism for ease of loading and unloading all types of tools and materials. With a load capacity of 2,000 lb, this hoist can travel up to 350 ft. at 100 ft/min. The tower is available in 5 ft. sections, each weighing about 90 lb. An optional drywall basket is available.
