Carload and intermodal volumes are mixed for week ending December 5, reports AAR

Rail carload and intermodal volumes were mixed for the week ending December 5, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR).

Carloads were down 12.9 percent annually at 271,774 and ahead of the week ending November 28 at 230,919 and November 21 at 267,830.

Two of the ten carload commodity groups tracked by the AAR were up annually, with miscellaneous carloads up 15.5 percent to 9,063 and motor vehicles and parts up 1.8 percent to 19,025.

Intermodal containers and trailers were up 0.8 percent annually at 270,276 which topped the week ending November 28 at 219,470 and the week ending November 21 at 264,702.

Through the first 48 weeks of 2015, carloads are down 5.3 percent at 13,318,535, and intermodal is up 1.8 percent at 12,801,015.
