CEMA reports 41% increase from January to January

Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association’s index shows an increase of 41% over January last year.

The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association reported that its January 2011 Booked Orders Index was 159. Index in January is down 18 points or 11% from December’s 2010’s Index of 159 (1990=100). The January 2011 Index represents an increase of 41% from the January 2010 Index of 100.

CEMA’s baseline calculation uses the year 1990 as a comparison. Numbers to the right of the equation show the current state of the conveyor industry as compared to 1990. Figures above 100 indicate growth; while anything less indicates a contraction in the industry.

January Booked Orders Indexes were 239 for Bulk Handling Equipment and 108 for Unit Handling Equipment* (1990=100). Since Bulk Handling Systems booked and billed sales are reported quarterly and are averaged back to the two preceding months, the booked and billed indexes for non-quarter ending months for Bulk Handling Equipment and Category X, total of all categories, are adjusted quarterly.

The Twelve-Month Index for Booked Orders was 136 in January. Index in January represents no change from December 2010’s Twelve-Month Index of 132.
The CEMA Billed Sales (shipments) Index was 137 in January. Index in January represents an increase of 3% from December 2010’s Index of 137. The January 2011 Index represents an increase of 43% from the January 2010 Index of 96.

December Billed Sales Indexes were 225 for Bulk Handling Equipment and 118 for Unit Handling Equipment (1990=100).

The Twelve-Month Index for Billed Sales was 132 in January. Index in January represents an increase of 3% from December 2010’s Twelve-Month Index of 128.
