The results of the survey reveal that:

• Organizations are embracing business-critical strategies such as Lean, Six Sigma, TQM, etc. as an approach to developing greater competencies and proficiencies in their supply chain. Primary objectives are to cut costs, grow profits, increase market share and improve inventory management.

• Supply chains will continue to leverage technology for their materials handling tasks. Two-thirds of those studied are now investing in or evaluating solutions for their materials handling operation. Most businesses expect to spend more or the same as in 2009. Among those planning to increase expenditures on materials handling-related technology, spending will increase by 37%, on average.

• Supply chains are elevating their commitment to the implementation of mobile solutions. Wireless equipment such as hand-held devices, communications devices and mobile printers are making an impact on inventory, asset and materials management efficiencies and shipping and receiving tasks. These improvements translate into greater productivity, increased accuracies and cost savings.
