ifm efector (Booth 1162) introduced its new O3D Smart Sensor for industrial automation applications. The 3D depth camera is designed to benefit industrial robotics, materials handling and packaging applications.
A manufacturer of sensors and controls, ifm efector’s product allows an automated machine to perceive its environment the way humans do—in 3D. Priced at $1,250, the sensor includes two “pre-built” applications: case completeness (which ensures that all contents are properly placed in the case) and box dimensioning (to capture the dimensions of a case).
Demonstrating the product, Garrett Place, product manager, said it allows companies to “see” into boxes and detect empty space, overfilled containers and other parameters. First to market with an industrial 3D imaging sensor, ifm efector is seeing positive response to its offering.
“We’re opening up entirely new applications for a broad range of companies,” said Place, “all while helping them decrease costs and increase throughput.”
Modex 2016 is scheduled to be held April 4-7, 2016 in Atlanta’s Georgia World Conference Center. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry. Modern’s complete Modex coverage.
