ISM announces Tim Fiore winner of the 2016 J. Shipman Gold Medal Award

Institute for Supply Management (ISM) has named Timothy R Fiore, CPSM, C.P.M., the 2016 J. Shipman Gold Medal Award winner in recognition of his distinguished service for the cause and advancement of the supply management profession.

Fiore was honored during the 2016 Shipman Award luncheon at ISM2016, ISM’s annual international supply management conference, taking place May 15-18 in Indianapolis. The award, created in 1931, is ISM’s most esteemed award and is presented annually to an individual who personally contributes to the advancements of purchasing and supply management while providing assistance and guidance to other professionals.

“Throughout his career, Fiore has consistently demonstrated his leadership ability, creating a work culture that fosters collaboration and teamwork while delivering measurable business results through competition and more visibility into the value of procurement,” said Tom Derry, CEO of ISM. “ISM and its membership have benefited from his involvement in several of our initiatives and programs, and it is our honor to recognize him with this distinguished award for his contributions to the industry as a whole.”

Fiore is an active member of ISM and has served on a number of ISM committees, as well as the ISM Board of Directors, while advancing CAPS Research, which is jointly sponsored by member companies ISM and the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He served as a member and chairman of CAPS Research Board of Advisors, the CSSL Advisory Group, and has contributed to ISM in various capacities for nearly 15 years.

Throughout his career, Fiore has mentored hundreds of students and professionals at all career levels, inside and outside of supply management. He has contributed to the expansion of the Howard University supply management program as a supply chain management advisory board member. He has also participated in university outreach by speaking in classrooms, collaborating with professors and mentoring students at Purdue University, DePaul University, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Connecticut, Quinnipiac University, University of New Haven, UMass Boston and Michigan State University.

Professionally, Fiore most recently held the role of senior vice president of supply management, CPO of North America, and member of the Executive Board at ThyssenKrupp NA, where he was responsible for the company’s first consolidated North American supply management program. He has also held senior supply management roles at Terex Corporation, Celanese Corporation, Ryder System, Inc and United Technologies Corporation.

Fiore holds an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a master’s in management from Rensselaer at Hartford, a bachelor’s from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and an associate’s in Automotive Technology and Small Business Management. He also earned a certification from the Darden School of Management.

Six students from around the United States selected for top supply management award

ISM has selected the 2016 recipients of the R. Gene Richter Scholarship, an award presented annually to the top supply management students from across the United States.

Recipients were determined based upon a submitted essay, cumulative grade point average, extracurricular involvement and overall achievements as a pre-professional.

This year’s R. Gene Richter Scholars include Karen Burlingame of The Pennsylvania State University, Tim Dong of Arizona State University, Christian Kerr of University of Minnesota, Aaron McClendon of Western Michigan University, Evan Raucacher of Michigan State University, Melanie Murphy of Grand Valley State University.

The award recipients were honored at ISM2016 in Indianapolis, Ind. this week. Now in its 13th year, the R. Gene Richter Scholarship provides a monetary award of up to $5,000 in tuition assistance. Recipients are also given access to an executive mentor in the profession and a junior mentor, a former Richter scholar.

The R. Gene Richter Scholarship Program was established and named in memory of R. Gene Richter, who was a galvanizing force in the field of procurement. Richter is admired for elevating the profession to world-class stature. He led the supply organizations at The Black & Decker Corporation, Hewlett-Packard and International Business Machines (IBM).
