Manufacturer finds right container to maximize space

The perfect container allows manufacturer to maximize cube in vertical carousel.

Many manufacturers and distributors turn to vertical carousels and vertical lifts to store more in less space. But without the correct size container that fits both the unit and the products to be stored, this automated solution can waste just as much space as standard shelving. A New Jersey manufacturer of car parts recently found a custom container solution that improved organization and cut storage space by 19%.

The company chose a 24 x 4 x 2-inch tote that can hold as many as 12 different parts of small items. Managers say the containers work very well and are fully adjustable with no danger of part migration. For larger parts, the company chose a 24 x 9 x 8-inch container with a closed front. This design allows workers to load the containers with no danger of product falling out of the front. Easy pull handles in the front of the tote make picking parts a breeze and dividers adjust to create the correct size compartment for almost any part. The containers have a perfectly straight wall that helps to increase storage capacity.

“We love the carousel, but the secret to the success of this system was to use the perfect-sized containers,” says one supervisor. “The these containers fit our application and our equipment perfectly and saved us from having to buy an additional unit.”

The solution combines specific containers for each group of products with the right accessories (dividers, placards, etc.) to make the system functionally and aesthetically pleasing.
