MHIA publishes “Fundamentals of Warehousing amp; Distribution, Volume 2: Warehouse Operations”

Designed as a follow-up to Fundamentals of Warehousing and Distribution, Volume 1: An Introductory Course in Material Handling, Volume 2 builds upon the equipment based information of Volume 1 and delves more deeply into the functions these equipment and processes serve in a warehousing environment.

Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) announces the publication of Fundamentals of Warehousing & Distribution, Volume 2: Warehouse Operations.

Volume 2 serves as a basis for a second course in the technology of the industry and will challenge students to use existing knowledge gleaned from Volume 1 and apply it to the actual function each piece of equipment serves in the warehouse or distribution center. By progressing the instructional materials from equipment-centric to functional-centric information, Volume 2 takes the basic functions of movement, storage, control and protection and expands these functions into such areas as shipping, receiving, order picking, putaways, ergonomics and sustainability.

Written by industry professionals with input from practicing teachers in the field of distribution and logistics. A cadre of teachers at the secondary level as well as the community college level provided input as to readability and teachability of the textbook. MHIA has strived to make purchase price of both the Volume 1 and Volume 2 textbooks affordable and cost effective for schools and organizations.

The Fundamentals of Warehousing course is offered through MHIA’s Technical Career Education Program (TCEP). Development of Volume 3 of this instructional course in currently under way.
