Modex 2012: Compact laser scanner suits AGV market

SICK (Booth 3304) is showcasing its new S300 Mini Safety Laser Scanner, a small and light safety-rated laser scanner that can be used in applications such as collision prevention for automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) and automatic guided carts (AGCs).

“In applications such as AGCs or AGVs, you don’t want to take up much of footprint of the vehicle with the scanner,” said Corey McAtee, safety systems product manager for SICK. “With its small size, it can be out the way, and still be highly functional.”

Part of the high function comes from the scanner’s ability to communicate with the safety system controller so that users have more data for safety-related diagnostics.

In addition to its compact size and reduced weight, the S300 has a 2-meter safety field range, a scanning angle of 270 degrees, up to 16 switchable field sets, and has an extremely low power-consumption rating.

Also new at SICK was the general availability of more functions for its SICK Visualization Platform (SVP), a dynamic database used for monitoring, analyzing and reporting all the information, including camera images and video, gathered from SICK devices.

Modex 2012 is scheduled to be held February 6-9, 2012 in Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry. Modern’s complete Modex 2012 coverage.
