Flow-Rite Safety Solutions (Booth 4328) introduced the Crossing Guard forklift collision awareness system that detects two separate motions to trigger an audible alarm and high-intensity LED alarm light. By requiring two inputs, Crossing Guard reduces nuisance alarms and detects the presence of motionless individuals—a common cause of forklift accidents and fatalities.

“With this product, we take the error out of human error,” said Dave Klumb, vice president of sales and marketing at Flow-Rite. “Forklift operators and employees who routinely walk through a facility often become immune to warning systems that frequently sound false alarms. Also, there’s no widely used system that detects a person who is standing still and is obscured from the forklift operator’s vision. This product does both.”

The unit monitors a definable area with four adjustable infrared, ultrasonic and/or weight sensors. For installation without electrical wiring, a low-cost, eco-friendly solar panel trickle powers the system’s rechargeable DC battery with energy from ambient warehouse light. Optionally, the device plugs into an existing low-voltage power outlet.

Modex 2012 is scheduled to be held February 6-9, 2012 in Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry. Modern’s complete Modex 2012 coverage.
