Plug Power (Booth 4114) showcased its new low-power Class 3 GenDrive fuel cell unit.

According to Reid Hislop, VP of marketing for Plug Power, the new generation of GenDrive fuel cells offers application-appropriate power output. The unit is air-cooled rather than liquid cooled, resulting in reduced maintenance and water management costs.

As of Q4 2011, the new unit also shares common components with the GenDrive offerings for Class 1, 2 and 3. The new uniformity contributes to further cost reductions across Plug Power’s offerings, said Hislop.

As an alternative to standard batteries, the fuel cell continues to gain momentum, said Hislop, who said more than 2,000 units are in service, including some with Fortune 500 companies.

Modex 2012 is scheduled to be held February 6-9, 2012 in Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry. Modern’s complete Modex 2012 coverage.
