Having launched the Perfect Pick robotic goods-to-person picking technology for order fulfillment at ProMat 2013, OPEX Material Handling (Booth 2019) returned having completed several retail and e-commerce installations.
Centered on the iBOT component, the system does not require multiple transfer points, lifts or conveyors, eliminating complexity and potential failure points.
Instead, the iBOT autonomous robotic delivery vehicles navigate along a track inside modular, high-density racking as directed by traffic control software to access every storage location within an aisle—both horizontally and vertically. They deliver inventory directly to a workstation integrated into one or both ends of the aisle.
“Implementing or upgrading an automated materials handling system can be a daunting undertaking, particularly for small- and medium-sized businesses that may not have the time, money and other resources to support a large, complex system,” explained Beth Ann Ferner, director of marketing. “Perfect Pick’s lower-cost, highly flexible design makes automation feasible for companies that would have previously considered it beyond their reach.”
ProMat 2015 is scheduled to be held March 23-26, 2014 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry. Modern’s complete ProMat 2015 coverage.
