Quadax installs semi-automatic orbital wrapping machine

The machine allows one person to wrap the company’s butterfly valves directly to their pallets in two to three minutes.

Recently, quadax valves, a valve distributor based in Bristol, Pa., installed a semi-automatic orbital wrapping machine that accelerated production in its shipping department, cut packaging waste and added protection to its valves during transport.

The company replaced the manual stretchwrapping process that typically requires two people with an orbital wrapping machine that enables one person to quickly wrap the company’s butterfly valves directly to their pallets in two to three minutes—compared to the 15 minutes previously required to pack each pallet.

While automatically wrapping the plastic stretch film 360 degrees around and under the entire pallet load, the orbital wrapping machine creates a unitized, secure load that protects the valves from weather, warehousing and shifting during transportation.

“We can wrap our biggest, heaviest products on the wrapper, and we don’t need metal banding anymore,” says Joe Dunbar, vice president of operations for quadax valves.

A single lift truck operator can now drive up to the orbital wrapping machine, attach the film end to the pallet, and quickly wrap it at the press of a button—as the load remains raised on the forks.

Available in three standard models (to accommodate a variety of pallet sizes), along with custom sizes for shipping oversized products, the orbital wrapping machine ships fully assembled with a full warranty and is ready to plug in and operate upon delivery.
