RRTS introduces outbound LTL service from Western Canada

Latest Material Handling News

Asset-light transportation and logistics services provider Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc. (RRTS) said this week it has expanded its less-than-truckload (LTL) service through the addition of outbound service from Vancouver, British Columbia. RRTS said that this service will open the western half of Canada to its LTL Freight’s outbound service.

RRTS said this marks the fourth service expansion for Roadrunner’s LTL Freight division in 2016, following revised service standards and a guarantee LTL product roll-out in February 2016. Roadrunner expanded facilities in Houston and Dallas, and opened their own location in Memphis, TN earlier this year.

“Vancouver is a vibrant area with dynamic business growth, being fueled by domestic as well as international trade,” said Grant Crawford, Roadrunner Transportation Systems President of Less-than-Truckload, in a statement. “The access to the world supply chain that this market provides through ports in both Vancouver and Prince Rupert is becoming a regular choice for customers moving freight from Asia into North America. Adding outbound service will allow us to serve the needs of customers that require transportation in both directions. Our Vancouver inbound and outbound products are highly competitive in the market, where given my past experience in Canada, highlighted the need for a reliable, cost-effective product that provides stability and commitment to the customers in British Columbia.”

A RRTS official told LM that Crawford is very experienced in the Canadian freight market and saw the need in the Vancouver market with a good match for the services Roadrunner provides.

“We have been looking at the market for greater than one year and were able to put it all together a quality service product, that we are proud to offer, over the last 6 month,” she said, adding that RRTS has provided inbound service for years but never outbound prior to this week’s announcement.

As for shipper benefits, the spokesperson said this rollout provides another option, as Roadrunner is making the investment in resources of all kinds to be the Premier Economy LTL provider in the U.S.

“We can provide that same service quality with our cross-border shipments as well and that is of great benefit to the shippers in Canada,” she said.
