TECSYS partners with WERC to embed industry metrics of high performers into analytics tools

Embedded data to be based on WERC's DC Measure’s industry study, which is in its tenth year.

TECSYS, a leading supply chain management software company, announced today that it has partnered with WERC (Warehousing Education and Research Council) to leverage the metrics of high performers in WERC’s DC Measure’s industry study, and embed them into TECSYS’ analytics and business intelligence tools.

The embedded metrics combined with TECSYS’ warehouse management application will empower decision makers to drive actionable strategies to become top performers on the road of efficiency, accuracy and profitability.

Michael Mikitka, CEO of WERC, stated: “The primary objective of this study is to provide a benchmark of key measures by industry and type of business and how they may change over time. The result is a significant set of intelligence from organizations in the manufacturing, distribution and retail industries. We are pleased with the TECSYS partnership; they have shown keen interest in our study with a clear commitment to deliver actionable intelligence to their customers. This was demonstrated by their deep dive into the survey and their ability to extend the data set into an analytics reporting model.”

2013 is the tenth year of the WERC’s annual warehouse benchmarking study. The heart of this study is to help practitioners gain a better understanding of key distribution metrics and report how performance has changed over time. Over the years the study has focused on various themes: highlighting the importance of the perfect order, measuring the softer side of performance, tracking significant changes in measures, or comparing bad warehouses to good warehouses.

“We have tapped into the industry’s premier organization for intelligence of performance metrics that is totally focused on warehouse management,” commented John Reichert, TECSYS’ Director, WMS Product Marketing. “Managing and improving KPI’s consume a significant amount of time and money in warehouse operations. By embedding WERC’s data sets from their in-depth annual survey of high performers into our analytics, executives are no longer limited to analyzing internal data in a vacuum. With TECSYS’ embedded metrics, customers are now able to compare, side by side, their internal performance results to high performers in their industry. We are working with the data not its source. TECSYS is achieving the embedded metrics in our tools while sustaining the integrity, quality and anonymity of benchmark contributors – critical to WERC’s ongoing mission in their annual survey of high quality, private benchmark data.”

Fundamental to managing a distribution operation is the ability to have access to actionable information in order to stay ahead of the competition. Achieving and maintaining a lead requires comparative information on how peers are performing to identify opportunities for improvement and areas of competitive advantage. On any given day, decision makers are faced with tactical decisions, such as ensuring that a major order is out of the door or handling certain inefficiencies in the warehouse affecting order cycle times.

On the other hand, they may be faced with strategic decisions such as committing to later order cut-off times for next day deliveries and/or aligning regional inventory stocking decisions based on combinations of fill rate targets and transportation costs. These types of decisions require timely, accessible, and trustworthy information to not only manage business, but to drive their business forward to a high performing and reliable destination.

“For over fifteen years, we have been enabling decision makers to gain clear and immediate insight into their organizational data assets in order to make informed decisions,” commented Dino Stamatiou, Business Intelligence & Analytics Practice Leader at TECSYS. “However, in today’s complex and highly-demanding distribution environment, decision makers want and need better analytical tools. We wanted to give our customers a reference model to compare their KPIs against industry standards in proven business environments. With WERC’s credibility, their unequivocal industry intelligence and wide participation of high-performers in their annual survey, we moved forward to adopt their metrics into our analytics application to enrich our customers with high-value intelligence tool set.”
