Fine line between goofy and tragic
June 26, 2008

The reason I have a part time job here blogging for Modern is I have a full-time materials handling day job. The editors wanted me because I set a good example. The magazine shows the kind of stuff I do and you people are supposed to do the opposite. The thing is, I do mean well.

A lot of you guys are like me. We try to do the right thing the wrong way. I’ve made that work for me. I’ve been told I’m both entertaining and provide good teaching moments. That’s why I’m a kinda like a franchise for Modern. Everyone else learns except me. If I start getting smart, Modern won’t want me no more.

My goofs tend to be monumental. But I heard of stuff you guys have done that’s not too slick. One guy I heard about sometimes climbs over pallets to get something so he can save time. He does this instead of moving the pallets with a lift truck. There’s a management problem right there. Why was what this guy wanted buried behind something else? I nearly…I mean he nearly broke his leg getting to it. And you don’t know what kinda contortions I…I mean he…goes through when doing cycle counts.

Do you have guys like me…darn, I mean this poor shnook…working for you? Next time something happens, it might not be so funny. Funny or not, maybe you have a learning opportunity for all of us. C’mon. Unload.
