FedEx and national drugstore chain Walgreen Co. said yesterday that they are collaborating on a FedEx package pickup and drop-off services, which are now available at more than 7,500 United States-based Walgreens stores. The companies said this announcement comes on the heels of a long-term alliance agreement announced earlier this year “to offer convenient access to FedEx pickup and drop off at thousands of Walgreens locations across the country.”

Last month, UPS announced that it rolled out a new service in Europe focused on urgent, time-critical shipments requiring special handling. Called UPS Express Critical, the company said examples of these shipments include things like aircraft parts or surgical tools that are particularly germane to the industries like healthcare, manufacturing and aerospace.

The Memphis-based company also said that quarterly revenue—at $11.0 billion—was up 2 percent, and operating income—at $795 million—saw a 7 percent gain. Operating margin—at 7.2 percent—moved up from 6.9 percent a year ago. FedEx reported earnings per share of $1.53, which was up 5.3 from $1.45 from last year, topping Wall Street estimates of $1.50 per share.

UPS has officially acquired the 49 percent interest of Vietnam-based VN Express in the joint delivery venture between the companies, whom initially first partnered in 1994, with VN Express serving at UPS’s authorized agent in Vietnam, prior to establishing a joint stock company in 2010.

Transportation and parcel bellwether UPS reported today that fourth quarter revenue increased 2.3 percent annually to a record $14.57 billion, and adjusted operating profit saw a 41 percent gain to record $2.05 billion. And earnings per share at $1.32 saw a 3 percent gain, falling short of Wall Street estimates of $1.38 per share.
