CEMA: Conveyor industry North American shipments level off in 2013

Following record years in 2011 and 2012, CEMA estimates that shipments totaled $10.137 billion for 2013, a decrease of $273 million from 2012 shipments of $10.410 billion.

The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) reports that 2013 shipments in North America were down 2.6%. Following record years in 2011 and 2012, CEMA estimates that shipments totaled $10.137 billion for 2013, a decrease of $273 million from 2012 shipments of $10.410 billion.

CEMA estimates that new orders totaled $9.853 billion in 2013. New orders in 2013 were $767 million less than 2012, representing a decrease of 7.2%.

CEMA President, Warren Chandler, announced the results at the Association’s 81st annual meeting in La Quinta, California earlier this month.

CEMA tracks new orders and shipped sales volume in nine classes of unit handling equipment and four classes of bulk handling equipment.

The executives representing CEMA member companies who attended the annual meeting expressed cautious optimism for 2014 and forecasted a 2% increase in shipments.
