Jervis B Webb achieves ISO 14001:2004 certification

ISO 14001 requires companies to continually improve their environmental performance and implement a systematic approach to setting and achieving environmental targets and objectives.

Jervis B. Webb Company — a subsidiary of Daifuku Webb Holding Company, and leading provider of innovative material handling solutions — announced today it has achieved ISO 14001:2004 certification at all of its North American plants and corporate headquarters.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) established 14001 to encourage companies to evaluate all areas of their business and manufacturing activities that have an environmental impact. ISO 14001 also requires companies to continually improve their environmental performance and implement a systematic approach to setting and achieving environmental targets and objectives.

“ISO 14001 certification illustrates Webb’s commitment to protecting our environment and conserving our natural resources,” said Brian Stewart, president of Jervis B. Webb Company. “In addition to examining our own processes, we have also addressed the needs of our customers by ensuring that our products are as efficient and environmentally friendly as possible.”

As part of its efforts to comply with the 14001 standard , Webb initiated recycling programs at its manufacturing facilities and its corporate headquarters to minimize waste. To date, Webb’s plants in Harbor Springs and Boyne City, Mich., have recycled more than 1,000 pounds of plastic shrink-wrap. The material is picked up, processed, and re-made into plastic bags.

The company is also reducing energy consumption by transitioning from metal halide lights to more efficient fluorescent lighting at its manufacturing facilities, as well as installing sensors to turn off lights in areas where there is no activity.
