Mezzanine implementation blends form and function for brewer

Custom platforms enable accessibility on uneven surfaces.

New Belgium Brewing, located in Fort Collins, Colo., is the third-largest craft brewery and the seventh-largest brewery in the nation. When the company needed to expand the brewery and add a new high-speed bottle-filling line in 2006/2007, it commissioned a custom steel mezzanine and platform system.

The company needed its new solution to accommodate the declining elevation of the bottle conveyor from 15 feet to 10 feet. The system also needed to allow access to the bottle conveyor and depalletizer.

The custom steel mezzanine provides an overhead platform to support the bottle conveyor, the high-level depalletizer and ground level in-feed of filling equipment. The solution incorporates different elevations to accommodate the conveyor and includes stairs, ladders and crossover structures that provide easy access to the entire conveyor system.

The mezzanine expansion also features an overhead platform to access the case palletizer located at the end of the bottle-filling line. This platform wraps around the palletizer and also creates access to the robot and conveyors that pass through the center. The entire machine area is enclosed with safety guarding and cages.

Representatives from New Belgium say that thanks to the mezzanine manufacturer, the system was easily and quickly installed. In addition to working well, representatives add, the powder-coated steel mezzanine is also an aesthetically pleasing addition to the brewery.
