Orbis Corporation, an international manufacturer of reusable packaging, has received approval from Factory Mutual Insurance (FM) for a new non-halogenated, fire-retardant material for use in its family of FM-approved, fire retardant pallets.
Effective immediately, Orbis will offer this material in more than 18 pallets. Included among those are a 40 x 48 pallet that can edge-rack up to 2,200 lbs in the 40-inch direction in ambient temperatures.
“Our pursuit of this material, and its subsequent approval by Factory Mutual, puts our reusable plastic pallets at the forefront of the industry,” said Curt Most, senior product manager for Orbis plastic pallets. “It was crucial that we created a halogen-free (HF) pallet that met environmental safety regulations without compromising the material performance. We are proud to offer the industry one of the first approved halogen-free solutions for fire-retardant pallets.”
Orbis has offered a family of FM-approved, fire-retardant pallets for use in specialized applications for nearly a decade. While halogenated compounds have commonly been used within plastic products, there has been a global push for manufacturers to eliminate halogens from their products.
