ProMat video competition helps exhibitors attract attendees to booths

New competition uses power of video.

To give ProMat 2011 exhibitors another means to entice attendees to their displays, the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) launched a new competition this year. Using the power of video-based marketing, “One Minute to Connect” offers exhibitors an additional opportunity to entice visitors to stop by their booth, says Carol Miller, MHIA’s vice president of marketing and communications.

“Exhibitors create a 1 minute video—posted on YouTube and linked on the http://www.promatshow.com site for broadcast—to explain why a stop at their booth should be on an attendee’s show agenda,” Miller explains. “Several companies participated, offering informative, engaging, persuasive—and even humorous—pitches.”

Any exhibitor was welcome to enter. ProMat attendees judge entries with the click of a thumbs-up icon. The voting officially began November 1, 2010 and ends at 4 p.m. on March 12, 2011.

To ensure the validity of the results, attendees can only place one vote per video, says Miller. The top three vote getters will have their video displayed on the ProMat home page before and during the show, as well as on video screens in The Hub, located in the center of the show floor. Additionally, the three winners will each receive a $100 gift certificate.

However, the gift certificate wasn’t the compelling reason for Ed Romaine, chief marketing officer of Sapient Automation to enter the competition.

“Exhibitors like us understand that the companies who are serious about investigating and purchasing the latest and greatest materials handling technologies are all over ProMat,” notes Romaine, who stars in his company’s video entry. “This simply provides another effective means to communicate to those attendees. In fact, if we’re one of the top three vote getters, we’ll not only donate the $100 gift certificate to MHIA’s Material Handling Education Foundation (MHEFI), we’ll match it.”

Contestants include Bench Pro, Egemin Automation, Flexcon, HighJump, Intelligrated, Interlink Technologies, KardexRemstar, LXE, Packline Overhead Conveyor, Rack Armour, Sapient Automation and TLC.

ProMat 2011 will be held March 21 - 24, 2011 at McCormick Place South in Chicago. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry.
