Crown Equipment joins panel at Sustainable Manufacturer Conference

Intended for owners, plant managers, corporate executives, EHS managers and engineers, the conference will cover topics that equip attendees with information about executing and enhancing sustainable manufacturing operations.

Crown Equipment Corporation, one of the world’s largest material handling companies, today announced that Tonja Rammel, environmental, health and safety manager, will represent the company as an expert panelist at this year’s Sustainable Manufacturer Network’s Sustainable Manufacturer Conference in Chicago May 20-21.

Intended for owners, plant managers, corporate executives, EHS managers and engineers, the conference will cover topics that equip attendees with information about executing and enhancing sustainable manufacturing operations. As a part of the panel, Rammel will discuss the role environmental management systems have in sustainable manufacturing and in increasing an organization’s profitability. Rammel will also provide insight into Crown’s environmental management system and the impact it has on both operations and the environment.

“What I hope people take away from the panel is how invaluable the implementation of an environmental management system is to an organization,” Rammel said. “Organizations tend to shy away from putting these systems in place because of the amount of work that is required up front. Although the initial work can be challenging, a successfully-implemented system often becomes part of the company’s overall culture and its benefits become a natural by-product of doing business.”

Last month, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized Crown Equipment’s New Knoxville manufacturing facility with the state’s highest environmental honor – the first-ever gold level facility in the EPA’s Encouraging Environmental Excellence (Ɛ3) program. The Ɛ3 program acknowledges Ohio businesses and other organizations for completing environmentally beneficial activities and serves as an incentive to commit to ongoing environmental stewardship. The gold level recognizes businesses that exceed regulatory compliance obligations and commit to long-term strategies to reduce waste, lower emissions and improve environmental performance. Crown has made numerous efforts to minimize waste, manage energy and maximize lifespan throughout its operations.

Sponsored by the Sustainable Manufacturing Network, an affiliate of the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International®, the conference is designed to connect manufacturers through educational sessions and networking opportunities. Expert panelists will present on the topics of waste management, lean and green, energy efficiency and repurposing energy.
