Dematic Egemin showcases straddle compact AGV

In a press conference on Tuesday, Dematic Egemin’s (Booth S1618a) Nathan Wolf, director of project execution and mobile automation, walked through the features of the new E’gv Compact mid-sized automatic guided vehicle (AGV) equipped with a straddle fork component.

“As the newest model in the E’gv Compact line, it carries up to 3,600 pounds—1,100 pounds more than our counterbalanced fork model—because the wheelbase extends in front of the load. It also makes narrower turns,” he explained.

Also offered in a 10,000-pound tow capacity tugger model, the product line aims for the middle market of AGV users, Wolf added. “It’s built to be more durable and have a longer lifespan than cart-style AGVs, but isn’t as expensive as a full-size AGV.”

Additionally, the E’gv Compacts use laser sensors for safety and navigation, combining the ability to read laser targets and features such as walls, columns and fixed rack uprights. This allows for easy reprogramming of the travel path, added Wolf, who noted that the in-booth demo of the vehicle showcases this target-less navigation.
