How to ensure consistent product quality with robotic palletizing

Lorillard Tobacco prides itself on delivering consistent, high-quality product to its customers. To ensure nonconforming product does not leave its factory, the company employs extensive quality assurance measures throughout its manufacturing process. Although its legacy palletizing system met all requirements for throughput, reliability and safety, all 36 packaging lines fed the same two palletizers, which made tracing defective product back to the packaging line of origin a long, arduous process.

Lorillard turned to Intelligrated for a robotic palletizing system with a designated stacking position for each packaging line. The new system:

  • Handles eight different case sizes, each with its own stacking pattern
  • Enables staff to easily trace defective product back to the line of origin so that nonconforming product does not leave the factory
