John Paxton joins MHI as chief operating officer

Paxton brings more than 30 years of experience to MHI including over 20 years of executive leadership at Demag Cranes and Components.


The Board of Governors of MHI has announced the appointment of John Paxton to the position of Chief Operating Officer/Chief Executive Officer Designate.

Paxton brings more than 30 years of experience to MHI including over 20 years of executive leadership at Demag Cranes and Components. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University and an MBA in International Business from Kent State University.

Over the years, Paxton has been recognized for his volunteer leadership of at MHI including serving as President of the Crane Manufacturers Association (CMAA), President of the Hoist Manufacturers Institute (HMI) and most recently as the Chairman of the Board of MHI.

In his new role, Paxton will report to MHI Chief Executive Officer, George Prest. His duties will include managing MHI’s Industry Group activities, among others.

“John’s experience as the leader of a major material handling manufacturing enterprise and his volunteer leadership at MHI brings a unique perspective on the needs of both MHI members and end users which will serve him well in his new role,” said George Prest.

Paxton responded, “MHI is a dynamic organization with members that are the leading providers in this industry, a high performing dedicated staff and a strong history. I want to thank the Board of Governors and George for the confidence they have shown in me as I begin this new role.”
