During a press conference on Tuesday, Denny McKnight, president of Tompkins International (Booth 4468), discussed his company’s vision for future warehousing operations—The Connected Warehouse, a place in which people and technology can co-exist in a way that improves the cost effectiveness, efficiency and reliability of employees’ workplace environments.
The innovative concept is driven by SensorThink—the first-ever digital platform developed for warehousing demands—which allows you to collect, process and analyze virtually any type of digital information (within the warehouse or across the distribution network) to manage materials handling automation in new ways.
Tompkins’ warehouse execution system (WES) is also integrated with SensorThink; without this integration, The Connected Warehouse wouldn’t have been implemented. As the first system to use the Internet of Things (IoT) in warehouses, Tompkins’ WES can retrieve information from IoT and non-IoT enabled devices, machines and sensors, offering previously unavailable visibility.
“We see The Connected Warehouse as the future of warehousing, [and] SensorThink is the digital platform upon which to build a connected warehouse,” McKnight said. “Modern fulfillment centers need this technology.”
