DHL introduces new flight out of Detroit

Latest Material Handling News

Global express delivery and logistics services provider DHL introduced a new flight geared towards Michigan-based importers and exporters out of the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

The new flight, which moves on a new Boeing 767-200, will provide earlier delivery times and later pick-up times by roughly one hour on average, according to DHL.

“Our expanded service window and the additional capacity of this aircraft are essential to accommodate the increasing volumes that are being generated by major automotive companies and suppliers as well as other businesses based in the region,” said Karsten Aufgebauer, Senior Vice President and General Manager for DHL Express in the Midwest, in a statement. “We are continually enhancing our U.S. network capabilities to ensure consistent, reliable service to our customers in the 220 countries and territories we serve.”

DHL said the Boeing 767-200 flight operates daily between the DHL Americas Hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG) and Detroit, with a stop in Minneapolis to connect with freight routed to and from Canada. The flight is operated by Atlas Air, Inc., a subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide, a global provider of outsourced aircraft and aviation operating services.

A DHL spokesman told LM that prior to the addition of this new flight shipments were previously trucked to and from the Detroit market.
