Information Management: Software suite unites packing, shipping and storage in multiple facilities

WMS upgrade leads to expanded logistics capabilities, fresh interface and faster network speeds.

Based in Washington state, Allan Brothers is a grower, packer and shipper of premium apples and cherries. After upgrading its supply chain software suite, the company has improved visibility, productivity and system performance.

The company needed software that could unite its complex operations, including apple and cherry packing lines, shipping and receiving docks, a refrigerated distribution center and both ambient and temperature-controlled storage warehouses. The new system provides lot tracing enhancements, embedded voice upgrades and a new interface with streamlined navigation. The company reports that programming time for adding search fields to pages has been greatly reduced with the new filter features.

“We needed to make some infrastructure changes to keep up with our growth,” says Autumn Bernier, chief information officer and systems manager for Allan Brothers. “Our users love the ability to personalize their views and search criteria, and the interface is very appealing. The enhanced graphing capabilities have given us greater visibility into our inventory and customer trends.”

The company can now handle significantly larger amounts of information with faster performance, thanks to a nearly 75% reduction in network bandwidth and the ability of the application server and Web server components to run on 64-bit versions of Windows servers.
