LTL news: ODFL expands in Cincinnati

Latest Material Handling News

Keeping in line with its domestic expansion agenda, less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services provider Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) said this week it has relocated its Cincinnati, Ohio Service Center to a new—and larger—location.

Company officials said that the move to a new facility, which will serve shippers in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, will better help ODFL meet its growth in this region. The new service center is 157 doors, a significant upgrade from its previous Cincinnati location, which had 46 doors.

“Old Dominion expanded its Cincinnati Service Center to effectively meet the steady increase of customer demands in the region,” said Brian House, manager of ODFL’s Cincinnati Service Center. “The larger, 157-door facility allows us to continue our growth in Cincinnati while also enhancing our customer service.”

With an increased capacity, Houser said ODFL can react faster to customers’ needs and maintain its industry-leading claims ratio.

This expansion is part of ODFL’s 2013 $95 million capital investment to real estate purchases and expansion projects. ODFL has more than 200 service centers. In 2012, it had a $90-$120 million company capital investment project focused on real estate purchases and expansion projects.

In February, ODFL moved its Toledo, Ohio-based service center to a larger and more modernized location, and it also said it has relocated its Paducah, Kentucky service center to a larger location. And it also opened up a Santa Maria, California service center and a Flagstaff, Arizona service center, and a Tomah, Wisconsin service center. On top of these openings, ODFL also expanded its Billings, Montana service center and re-located its Las Vegas service center.
