Dedicated to the dairy business since 1952, a northeast Spain-based milk producer has been synonymous with quality in each of its processes.
It always searches for the best selection of dairy cow breeds, routinely updates equipment and conducts regular milk quality control activities. And, it stores the milk in optimal conditions to ensure quality is maintained throughout the production process.
After researching warehouse automation solutions, the milk producer decided to install transit packaging consumables, tools, software and equipment, known as StorFast.
The system consists of a high-density automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS), along with a full range of robot-based depalletizing, palletizing and materials handling solutions—and a cart-based system. It’s ideally suited for large batches. Due to its higher density, it also offers an efficient use of space with deep aisles.
The milk producer considered several other “soft” cost factors while making its investment. Additionally, labor concerns like “repetitive motion injuries” and human resource challenges were also considered as the milk producer prepared to automate.
And, product quality issues, such as stock rotation and reduced product damage, were constant challenges, prior to automation. However, the new system helps companies avoid product breakage, which had previously led to a large amount of returns.
