ODFL expands facilities in Ohio and Kentucky

Latest Material Handling News

Less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services provider Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) said last week it has expanded two of its locations, with one of them also being relocated.

ODFL said it moved its Toledo, Ohio-based service center to a larger and more modernized location, and it also said it has relocated its Paducah, Kentucky service center to a larger location.

For the Toledo facility, ODFL said that the 48-door service center has additional yard space and a larger dock to better accommodate its steady growth in northern Ohio and southeastern Michigan. And it added that this location is part of the company’s effort to reduce its carbon footprint as it is comprised of energy efficient lighting with motion sensors to lessen the total amount of energy consumed and solar powered security fencing, too.

ODFL has been in Toledo for 19 years and has more than 30 staffers in this location. The Toledo service center, which is based near Interstate 75, serves 11 Ohio-based cities: Sandusky, Toledo, Port Clinton, Huron, Perrysburg, Holland, Swanton, Bryan, Wauseon, Findlay and Carey; and six Michigan-based cities: Tecumseh, Manchester, Monroe, Woodville, Jonesville and Adrian.

In Paducah, Kentucky, ODFL is relocating is Paducah Service Center to a larger facility to improve service to customers in Kentucky, Missouri and Illinois, according to company officials.

It is comprised of an upgraded 20-door terminal near the Interstate 24 corridor, which ODFL said will allow to more efficiently manage the sustained growth in freight traffic in that area.

“The larger loading dock will eliminate congestion and allow us to more efficiently service our customers,” said Doyle Fox, manager of the Paducah Service Center, in a statement. “This enhanced facility will help Old Dominion maintain its commitment to providing outstanding service to all its customers in the region.”

ODFL has been in Paducah for nine years, with 20 employees working at the seven-acre service center. This service center provides LTL services for four Kentucky-based cities, including Paducah, Murray, Calvert City and Mayfield, two in Missouri, Sikeston and Cape Girardeau, and two in Illinois, Marion and Benton.

ODFL has more than 200 service centers. In 2012, it had a $90-$120 million company capital investment project focused on real estate purchases and expansion projects.
